Airless basics
Four variables decide the film
Pump ratio × air pressure
Pressure
Fluid pressure at the tip. A 65:1 pump at 6.9 bar inlet reaches 448 bar.
Litres per minute
Flow
Enough volume to hold pressure while the gun is open. An undersized pump pulses and the pattern collapses.
Tip size × viscosity
Atomization
Tip and pressure matched to the coating. Too little pressure leaves tails at the fan edges.
Wet film → DFT
Film
A full, even pattern gives predictable dry film thickness and less rework at inspection.
Start from the coating data sheet. It gives tip size, pressure and mix ratio. The equipment's job is to deliver those numbers every shift, at every point on the structure.
Under-pressured
Tails at the edges · DFT 180–320 µm
Matched system
Full, sharp fan · DFT 240–260 µm
Illustration only. DFT ranges show the idea of film spread, not a test result.

The range for protective coatings
All four ATLAS pumps share one 10" air motor. A higher ratio trades litres per minute for pressure headroom, so the right model depends on how heavy your coating is and how long your hose runs.

| ATLAS | Ratio | Max pressure | Max flow | cc / cycle |
|---|
Max fluid working pressure and max volume flow at 60 cycles/min, from cosmostar.net. Bars to scale: 510 bar and 15 L/min full width.
